Creating Your Own Indigenous - Led Impact Assessment Guidebook

Odonaterra prepared the “Creating an Indigenous-led Impact Assessment Process Guidebook” to   offer Indigenous groups one potential path to develop their own project assessment process. We partnered with Mushkegowuk Council to deliver the material in a training course offered in May 2026 at the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) conference in Quebec City.

The Guidebook is based on our review of Indigenous-led impact assessment processes in Canada and reflects our understanding of this practice based on more than three decades of impact assessment experience in Canada and our work facilitating Indigenous-led assessments over the past decade.

The Guidebook is broken down into three parts:

1)     Knowledge Sharing: Information about impact assessment practice and laws in Canada and where Indigenous-led assessments can strengthen environmental decisions.

2)     A Pathway: Steps that can be taken to create an Indigenous-led impact assessment process.

3)     Resources: Resources: Further reading and links to other resources. Please provide your name, organization and email to download the Guidebook. We will never sell your contact details but retain it so we may stay in touch about our programs and services.

Based on the positive and overwhelming response to our training course in Quebec, we are considering offering a second in-person training course this fall and will send updates as information becomes available.
